TOMMY HIT BRADY: THE ISLAND INK STORY

Some cards are memorable before anyone looks up a price. In our latest Lyons Edge studio sitdown, Tommy Freese and Connor Lyons revisit one of those cards: a Tom Brady Island Ink autograph that the video identifies as the Red parallel, numbered 2/5.

The card is on the desk. Tommy is telling the story. He recalls recognizing the Island Ink design, seeing a silver helmet and a Patriots logo, and narrowing the possibilities to Gronk or Brady. Then came the reveal.

That is the feeling behind the Lyons Cards Island Ink Hunt, returning every Tuesday night on Whatnot. We want to enjoy the chase, learn the cards and give the ones we find a story worth telling.

THE SET

WHAT IS ISLAND INK

Island Ink is an autograph family in 2026 Topps Flagship Football. Topps describes a tropical, hand-illustrated design built around bamboo, hibiscus and bold lettering, with signatures signed on the card. The Pro Bowl theme gives the family an identity collectors can recognize across different players.

The checklist contains 19 players, including Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Le'Veon Bell, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and Ray Lewis. It gives a collector several ways in: a favorite player, a favorite team, an autograph collection or a project to assemble the full family.

For a new collector, “on-card” means the autograph is signed directly on the card. A numbered parallel is a distinct version with a stated serial denominator. Those details help identify the object being collected; neither supplies a market price on its own.

THE CARD

WHY THIS BRADY MATTERS

Tommy’s video identifies the featured card as Red 2/5. In that designation, 2 is the individual serial and 5 is the declared number of copies of that exact version. It does not mean only five Brady Island Ink cards exist across every parallel.

The appeal combines the player, the autograph, the Island Ink design and the limited version. The personal story adds another reason an owner may want to keep it. That is different from claiming that a particular buyer will pay a particular dollar amount.

We are not assigning this card a market value in this article. A sound valuation would begin with clear photographs confirming the exact card and condition, then examine matched transactions and the alternatives available to a Brady collector. A seller’s asking price and a completed sale are different kinds of evidence.

“2 of 5 tells us how many copies of that exact version exist. It does not tell us what a buyer will pay.”

THE LYONS EDGE

THE ODDS

CAN ISLAND INK COME FROM A HANGER

Yes. The published Topps odds include Island Ink in Hanger, Hobby, Jumbo, Value and Mega formats. But access is not a promise, and the version matters.

For the unnumbered Island Ink autograph version, the published per-pack rates are 1:876 in Jumbo, 1:2,814 in Hobby, 1:5,713 in Hanger, 1:28,539 in Value and 1:28,654 in Mega. These are family-wide rates, not the odds of pulling Brady, not the Red /5 odds, and not a guarantee for any box or case.

That distinction matters during a live break. We can celebrate what is possible while being precise about what the product promises. The family’s availability in a format should never be turned into a claim that the next box owes us a hit.

THE DECISION

THE HUNT AND THE COLLECTION ARE DIFFERENT DECISIONS

Opening packs offers the experience of discovery. Buying an identified single lets a collector target a particular card. Both can be part of the hobby, but they accomplish different things.

A collector working toward Island Ink might enjoy the Tuesday show while maintaining a list of missing players. Someone focused on Brady may prefer one carefully chosen version. A mixed-parallel player collection can be appealing too, provided it is described accurately rather than presented as a matching complete set.

At Lyons Cards, this is where the Market Lab thinking belongs. Price tells us what people have paid or are asking. Supply tells us what is currently offered. Velocity asks how often cards actually change hands. Scarcity describes the exact issue. Timing considers the owner’s horizon and the wider market.

“A comp starts the conversation. The next decision also needs context.”

EVERY TUESDAY

EVERY TUESDAY NIGHT THE HUNT CONTINUES

The Island Ink Hunt gives us a recurring place to bring the cards, the stories and the collectors together. We will look for the signatures, identify the versions and talk through what makes each card worth studying.

The announced 13-box lineup is three Hobby, five Mega and five Blaster boxes. That is a particular show configuration, not a promise that every Tuesday will use the same mix. Check the current show listing for the start time, products and participation details.

Tommy’s Brady is the story we are sharing today. The next card has its own story waiting.
